Spitsbergen introducing photo
Spitsbergen, polar land of Arctic

Photo report in Spitsbergen

Discovery of the Arctic

This trip was my first experience in such difficult conditions, and of course, taking pictures sometimes took a back seat, especially during kayaking. There was the risk of seeing the device get wet or even fall into the water, but there was mainly the cold and numb fingers.

Taking pictures in polar environment is tricky

Taking pictures during a kayaking expedition is indeed a challenge if the device is not protected by a waterproof shell. The camera must be stored in front of you in a waterproof bag and retrieved each time you want to take a picture ... I let you imagine the reactivity when a seal or a polar bear appears!
Also like mentioned above, the fingers wet by water at 1 or 2 degrees and moving in air at the same temperatures are rather stiff. In these conditions, it is really not easy to handle the material.
This is why there are only a few photos in this gallery.

Arctic then Antarctica

On the other hand, you can watch the report on Antarctica where, with more experience, I was able to achieve beautiful photos.
Photo equipment has also evolved a lot, especially thanks to GoPro-type cameras which allow you to take photos and videos without worrying about the risks incurred by the device. During my last trip to Greenland, a good part of the photo reportage was done with the GoPro.

The Spitsbergen is ideal for lovers of bird photos, especially if they are equipped with large focal lengths.
