Cambodia travelogue: Battambang

rambutan fruit This morning we walk to the Smokin'pot for the Kmer cuisine lesson. Our "chef" takes us to the central market where we buy all the vegetables, meat, fish we need.

Back to the restaurant, the tables are set outside and we are ready to cook three recipes among the most traditional cambodian dishes: lok lak beef, fish amok and chicken soup. The "chef" teaches us how to cut beef in thin slices, how to chop vegetables and how to make coconut milk. At the end of each dish we taste the result... This is a unique experience that we warmly recommand! But the Smokin'pot is primarily a bar-restaurant in which you can taste any kind of cambodian dishes and delicious fruits juices.
Around 1.30pm the lesson is over and we decide to go back to the market to take a few pictures then head back to the hotel. By 3pm, when the heat is not too strong, we take a tuk-tuk bound for Wat Kor village some 2 km South of Battambang where we visit two ancient houses from 1902 and 1920. Then we visit the Vat where we have an interesting conversation with a monk. Battambang is an authentic city with few tourists where it is nice to spend a day or two.
