Cambodia travelogue: Phnom penh to Battambang

cambodian fisherman of Battambang Yesterday, we bought the bus tickets to Battambang 5$ per person. The journey takes about 5h (350 km). A minibus comes and picks us up at our hotel around 7.20am and drives us to the bus station behind the market.

We manage to find our bus in spite of the lack of signs. There are only a few tourists on board this bus, the majority of passengers are cambodian men and women who really enjoyed karaoke music displayed all along the journey... we didn't :-) It was very long and difficult for the bus to get out of Phnom penh because of traffic tuk-tuk, motos and pedestrians. After 40 minutes, as we get out of the capital city, we can see ricefields. Now the road is quite good, the bus can speed up. We finally reach Battambang in early afternoon. We take a tuk-tuk to Teo hotel where the double room is 10$. We decide to stay in our room until 3pm as it is too hot outside. That's only then that we decide to walk to discover Battambang. We visited wat Damrey sar where we spent a few minutes chatting with before walking along the Sangker river.
We stayed on the riverbank to watch a fisherman using a fishing net and other people in the river picking up seashells. After that we headed to the Smokin'pot to grab a drink and book for tomorrow's Kmer cuisine lesson.

Time to go back to the hotel and have a shower while we enjoy a fantastic view of the sunset from our room.
