Group of chinstrap penguins

Chinstrap penguins colony in Antarctica
30/44

After getting familiar with Gentoo penguins and Adelie penguins, I was happy to observe a new species: chinstrap penguins so called because of the thin band of black feathers which extends from ear to ear, just below the chin and the cheeks (which give them a funny face). Chinstrap penguins often slide on their belly propelling themselves by their feet and flippers in order to reach the sea. On their way back they climb up steep slopes using feet and flippers or using penguin higways.
