Photo of springbok

Springbok, another antelope in the bush

At first we had difficulties to tell springboks from impalas. They are both quite similar antelopes and when it's your first photo safari you tend to put them in the same basket.
But if you go back to the previous photo you'll see an impala and soon realise that there are three main differences. Unlike impalas, springboks have a small white head with a thin black line between the eyes and the mouth.
Another difference between impalas and springboks is the large horizontal black line on the side.
And finally, the horns of the springboks are straight and thiner, reverting backwards at the top. Whereas the horns of the impalas have a curved shape.
I might add another point of divergence based on my experience of the 23 days spent in Namibia and Botswana: springboks are not as numerous as the impalas.
