Photo of an impala

Aka Mc Donald of the bush

Impala antelope

Impalas are the first wild animals that we spotted on our first photo safari in Botswana. We were very excited and took many photos of the whole herd. In Namibia or Botswana impalas are gregarious so they can be seen in groups of twenty to fifty.
In winter they tend to form even bigger herds which can reach more than one hundred impalas. But as time passed, we rapidly realised that impalas are everywhere in the bush. Therefore the excitement dropped and turned to boredom after a few days of impalas spotting.
They are so numerous that local guides have been nicknamed impalas the Mc Donald of the bush as they are the favorite preys for all predators.

Nevertheless we enjoyed spotting impalas and trying to tell the males from the females, but also trying to tell impalas from springboks. Indeed, they look alike but if you compare with the next photo you'll get the difference between an impala and a springbok.
