Two females lion resting after the hunt and kill of a giraffe near a the Etosha pan in Namibia. It was quite a show to observe the lions chase and kill the giraffe: this is one of the most impressive event we witnessed during this wildlife photo safari in Namibia.
Did you know that these are the females lion who hunt and once the prey is killed, the male lion is the first one to eat.
That may seem unfair but that's how it works among the lions community. We had been warned by people that lions were spotted in the vicinity of the Etosha pan. We then drove our equiped camper 4x4 via dusty trails leading to the pan and quicly located the predators which were in action, circling the giraffe, trying to isolate it from the group it belonged to.
A few minutes after we positionned our vehicule in a way that we wouldn't miss the event, the females lions launched a coordinated attack which gave no chance of escape to the giraffe. It was quick and despite the difference in height, the giraffe fell down and was killed.
