Kneeling warthog

warthog on its knees to feed
24/

It is usual to see warthogs getting down on their knees to feed as they have a very short neck. Then they search the ground with their snout looking for nuts or roots.
Surprisingly we didn't spot as many warthogs as we did in a previous trip to South Africa. We came across this warthog while driving on the dusty trails of Moremi game reserve in Botswana. If you looked closely at the head you'd notice two small tusks which are said to be very sharpened.
Warthogs use them to defend themselves and also probably to search the ground.
According to what I read about warthogs, they actually are not tusks, though they really look like ones, but teeth that would have grown outside the mouth...
If you are keen this wild animal, you might be interested in watching the following photo of a warthog in Kruger park south Africa, also looking for food.
