The grand canal (gran canal) crosses Venice and cuts it in two. Three bridges including the famous Rialto Bridge cross it. It is the grand canal that you take when you want to go to the Murano and Burano islands. It is still it that we observe from the San Marco area when we look at San Giorgio Maggiore in the distance.
