Photo of invasive pigeons of San Marco square
Street vendor surrounded by pigeons

Having arrived at nightfall, we had crossed an almost deserted Saint Mark's Square to reach our hotel.
What a surprise the next morning when we discovered the multitude of pigeons sitting on the ground and crowding the square. Their presence, funny at first, quickly becomes painful because they have become used to the human presence and are not very frightening, they become sticky!
I am also not sure that they are viewed very favorably by the senior officials responsible for the conservation of Venetian monuments because it is common knowledge that their droppings are very corrosive and damage everything.
