Photo postcard of Namibia

Vigilant oryx and sheltered springboks

oryx and herd of springboks

When the heat becomes too hard to bear, springboks and oryx stay still and if possible in the shadow of trees: in Namib desert wildlife is rather difficult to spot because of the heat and the lack of trees to shelter with.
Nevertheless when you're lucky like we were not only Namib desert landscapes are wonderful but wildlife make the day even more interesting. When we planned to go to Sossuvlei sand dunes I didn't expect to come across wildlife in Namib desert. It was a surprise to spot this herd of springboks sheltering under the only available tree in the area. On top of it a majestic oryx was staring at us in a curious but vigilant way.
I like the ambivalence of this photo because even though the landscape is hostile, wildlife like oryx or springboks manage to live in Namib desert and take advantage of the few opportunities (shadow, water or food) provided by nature.
A good example of how wildlife can adapt even in the more harsh lands like Namib desert.
