Photo of a half immersed grumpy hippopotamus

Threatening hippopotamus in the river

The trail we were driving on ran along Moremi river in the eponym Botswana game reserve when we spotted the head of a lonely hippopotamus almost fully immersed in the water.
We stopped our well adapted for photo safari equiped camper 4x4, I opened the window and put my 200mm lense on to take a photo, and another one, and another one... But after a while the hippopotamus suddenly dashed out of the river in an impulsive mouvement, clearly threatening us that we should leave. The 4x4 is has a massive body compared to the hippopotamus but regardless of that it charged us in an intimidating behavior.
We had been told that hippos are the most dangerous animals in Africa, before crocodiles or snakes, because when they charge, it can be pretty messy.
We didn't want any trouble with wildlife in general and hippopotamus in particular as this photo safari was aimed at getting a better knowledge of austral africa wildlife. Therefore we simply moved on... but I still got a beautiful photo of the hippo with the missing ear and grumpy attitude.
