Venice travelogue
The city of Venice in Italy, associated with many clichés, gondolas, city of lovers, is known to all. This is what made us hesitate to visit the city of the Doges because very often we get an idea of the atmosphere, the tourist attractions, at the risk of being disappointed once there.
Week-end or short stay
Finally, it was during a short stay that we discovered Venice. We have selected a hotel in Saint Marc's Square in order to be as central as possible and to be able to reach out more easily. Exceptionally, we did not buy a tourist guide, deciding to let ourselves be carried away by our instinct and our desires.
This is how we strolled through the streets of Venice, captivated by this city Italian charm with undeniable charm. The many bridges spanning the canals that crisscross Venice give an atmosphere of a lakeside city where it is not clear whether the exception is the pedestrian who walks or the one who travels in a gondola.
And when we felt like we had made the most of famous places like the Basilica, Saint Mark's Square, or Café Florian, we took the Vaporetto to discover two nearby islands with quite similar names: Murano and Burano. The first is famous for its glassblowers which allow tourists to admire their work. The second, Burano is the one we preferred. This island is indeed only color, on every street corner until the port. The houses feature brightly colored facades, beautifully highlighted by the generous shaving winter sun: a feast for the eyes and photographers.
Venice in photos
From the Burano and Murano islands to the alleys of Venice, color is omnipresent. Therefore I made it a separate section, mainly oriented to the facade of houses in bright colors, where you will be amazed.
Perhaps the strongest symbol of Venice: the gondolas. They evoke canals and romanticism and are omnipresent in the city of the Doges, even in the smallest canals as some photos reveal.
bjects or architectural details that we do not necessarily see at first glance and which are nevertheless as important as the bow irons of gondolas or the pigeons of Saint Mark's Square.
A collection of famous places, cafes and monuments in Venice. Indeed, even if I really liked getting lost in the isolated alleys of the city, certain places remain unmissable, such as the Campanile, the Doge's Palace or Saint Mark's Square.
The color suits Venice perfectly, but the black and white suits it very well too. It is the peaceful side of the places that I wanted to bring out through these few black and white photos.
About our stay in Venice
It was in December that we undertook this romantic stay in Venice, not out of conviction or to prove something to ourselves but simply because an opportunity arose and that we never balk at visiting a country or a city. that we do not know.
Staying in a very central hotel is a real plus because it allows you to take regular breaks without having to use a means of transport or leave the centers of interest.
We walked a lot but it was a pleasure at all times because in each street, under each arch or in each building, Venice reveals a part of itself and surprises the visitor.
In addition, the nearby Burano and Murano islands offer a change of scenery and enchantment.
Best time to travel
Venice can be visited all year round, it all depends on your preferences. We stayed there in December, it was cold but dry and the sun was shining brightly. On the other hand, there weren't a lot of tourists. For lovers of the Venice carnival, there is no choice but to go there in February.
