Waimea rocks forming a canyon

waimea canyon in Hawaii
16/28

This gorgeous canyon formed by ancient lava rocks spreads on some 13 miles and reaches up to 2500 ft in depth! Stunning landscapes are garantied.
Flowing through the canyon is Waimea river, the longuest of the island. It is fed by three tributaries which bring reddish waters from the mountain top swamps. And this is why the river is named Waimea. Wai stands for fresh water and mea for red.
Although it is much smaller and younger than the real one in Arizona, Waimea canyon is also reffered as the grand canyon of the Pacific Arizona.
