Photo of bat-eared foxes

Disproportionate ears of the bat-eared fox

bat-eard foxes in the bush

Bat-eared fox... that is an animal I had never heard about. And what a surprise when I came across two of these awkward african mammals. Bat-eared fox is a peculiar animal because it is rather small, the size of a fox actually, but its ears are totally disproportionate.
That being said, the bat-eared fox doesn't care about the way it looks. The most important for the little mammal is the fact that those ears provide him a very useful tool when it comes to look for food. Indeed, the large ears of the bat-eared fox enable him to locate mice, scorpios, worms or whatever under the ground.
The photo represents two bat eared foxes in the bush of Moremi game reserve in Botswana. It was taken from afar using my 200mm lens plus a multiplier.
