Photo of a blue vervet monkey
Why are they called blue vervet?

This monkey is called blue vervet because it has gaudy blue testicules, turning almost turquoise. Although this specificity is not clearly visible on this photo, I shot another one in Zimbabwe where the blue testicules of the blue vervet can't be missed!
This peculiar appendix is not the only amazing gift of the blue vervet. On this photo, the monkey standing on a tree branch with its mouth open wide is showing super long canines.
As you can guess, blue vervet monkeys are easy to identify while on photo safari, mainly because of the blue testicules of the males.
