Travel to Cuba

Paris - Havana

Depart from Paris to La Havana where we arrive at 8.30 pm. Once the custom procedure has been done (at least one hour), we took a cab to the Vedado where we had booked our first two nights.

We enjoyed this day, walking in the city, drinking cocktails...

Havana - Vinales

As the road between these two cities is very good, it only takes 2h30 by car. In Viñales we slept in a guest house : Aleida rodriguez, "las maravillas", km.27 a las afueras de Vinales.
In the afternoon, we visited the area : the famous mogotes, tobacco plantations, mural de la prehistoria, cueva del indio...

Vinales

We decided to visit the area located to the north of Viñales as far as Puerto esperanza. The landscapes are really beautiful but some roads are so damaged that you can only drive 30 km/h (20 miles/h).
In the afternoon, we visited the city of Pinar del rio.

Vinales - Playa larga

The most important part of this trip can be done using the highway except the first 25 kilometers between Vinales and Pinar del rio, and the last 30.
But we chose to drive on smaller road swhich enabled us to see beautiful landscapes and villages. We arrived in Playa larga around 4.30 pm, and after we found an accomodation, we took a bath in the turquoise and warm water.

Playa larga

Sea, snorkeling, sunbath...We spent the morning (until 2 p.m) at a cenote : la cueva de los peces, a 70 m hole which communicates with the sea via subterranean channel.
There, we admired several multicolored fishes. In the afternoon, we went to playa giron where we found a beautiful beach, transparent water and coral reef.

Playa larga - Cienfuegos - Trinidad

We drove along the seaside to reach Trinidad at 3 p.m then, we visited this beautiful city.

Trinidad

In the morning, we stayed on a Playa Ancon beach, 15 km from Trinidad. Snorkeling and diving . Again, our senses were filled by the transparent water, the corals and the multicolored fishes. We took advantage of afternoon to discover the surrounding area of Trinidad: tope de collantes and the valley of los ingenios.

Trinidad

Memorable day : we made a horse-trekking. Eveything went well but the superb landscapes wouldn't erase our back and ass pain ! 7 hours on a horse...

Trinidad - Sancti spiritus - Ciego de Avila - Moron

This transition day enabled us to visit two cities of low interest : Ciego de avila and moron. We were not aimed at sleeping there but we never found accomodations in the surrounding area. Fortunately at night, we found this little pub with an excellent bar tender whose rhum-made cocktails cheered our stay up!

Moron - Cayo coco - Remedios

We left Moron at 9 a.m so as to stay as long as possible on Cayo coco island...and there, we could hardly believe what we saw : huge white sandy beaches, transparent water, multicolored fishes, bright hot sun, coral reefs... a dream ! Around 3 p.m we had to leave this magical place bound for remedios, a common town where we slept.

Remedios - Varadero

Contrary to Cayo coco, Varadero is already very well known by tourists. Despite the quantity of luxury hotels, we succeded in finding a cheapest one where we stayed. We also avoided the crowded beaches and found this little one called Playa del coron. A good one!

Varadero - Havana

Snorkelling and swimming in the morning and then we drove to La Havana.

Havana - Paris

Last day in Cuba and more specifically in the capital town where we bought rhum, cigars and visited places we hadn't seen yet. Our flight was schedule at 11.30 p.m.

Paris

Arrival in Paris around 2.30 pm...grey sky, 5°C, holidays are over...fortunately we've got the photos and plenty of memories!!!
