Spitzbergen is located in the Svalbard archipelago, ruled by Norway. Situated between 74° et 81° of latitude north, it is roughly at mid-distance between the northern cape and the north pole.
Any good reason to travel over there ?
Spitzbergen is mainly used as a scientific camp but it has recently open to tourism which enabled us to spend 11 wonderful days. We set-up our tents some 500 meters from a huge glacier, on the sea shore, the average temperature was 5°C and the day was permanent ! We spent our time walking and kayaking among the icebergs and the wildlife...
