Edimburgh to the Highlands

 

Program and itinerary

[Day 1 Scotland trip] Paris - Edinburgh
Our flight from Paris to Edinburgh landed by 8.30 pm. Then we took a cab to the B&B we had booked from France: Castle guest house.
 
[Day 2 Scotland trip] Edinburgh
Day dedicated to Edinburgh. We started with the old town, the castle place, the Royal mile, the several closes then back to Princes street and visit of the new town.

We enjoyed the walk on the Royal mile from the castle to Holyrood palace, the walk to the castle via castlehill, quite steep but worth the effort for the wiew on beautiful houses and Edinburgh castle.

We of course had the occasion to meet real Scottish bagpipe player in traditional kilt.

Princes street is ideal for shopping and the park near the national gallery ideal to rest on the benches.

Edinburgh is a really beautiful city, we walked all day and finished exhausted but happy !

Our B&B was ideally located between the old and new town.
 
[Day 3 Scotland trip] Edinburgh - Inverness
We rented a car then headed to Inverness via Deeside touristic road as far as Ballater then Highland touristic road. We stopped very often to watch the beautiful landscapes.
Once in Inverness, we walked in the city and prepared the next day at the tourist office. Night in a B&B.
 
[Day 4 Scotland trip] Inverness - Wick
In the morning we sailed on the Caledonian canal then on the loch Ness, then we took the car northbound to Wick. We drove along the north-east coast of Scotland and its beautiful Scottish landscapes.
La ville est plutôt calme, le centre piéton est agréable. Nuit au B&B
 
[Day 5 Scotland trip] Wick - Ullapool
In the morning we headded to John o'groats and particularly Duncansby head to see the famous stacks... simply impressive !
We were lucky enough to see several birds like puffins or guillemots. Then we drove to Ullapool along the northern coast of Scotland, amazed by breathtaking landscapes, steep cliffs, sand beaches...
Once in Ullapool, we hanged around on the port and visited the small town.
 
[Day 6 Scotland trip] Ullapool - Glencoe
On our way to Glencoe we stopped at Eilean Donan castle.
Then we crossed the very touristic Fort William to finally reach the peaceful Glencoe near loch Leven.
In the afternoon, we walked in the surrounding forest.
 
[Day 7 Scotland trip] Glencoe - Edinburgh - Paris
On our way back to Edinburgh we visited Callander then headed to the airport.
