Gentoo penguin colony

Gentoo penguins colony established on a massive rock surrounded by icebergs on Petermann island Antarctica.
Although Antarctica is mainly covered in snow and ice, penguins nest on rocky areas free of snow. Those seldom locations are often far from the sea making it difficult for the penguins to slide down to the sea and climb back up with a belly full of fresh food.
